Can't Fire: Your Doctor
In the free world, a patient can fire their doctor or medical practice for any reason; likewise, a practice or practitioner can fire a patient if the cause is justifiable. In many places in the USA, people have a choice between many practitioners and practices, and this means one can walk away from a place for seemingly any reason.
In prison, however, we patients cannot fire our only practice without severe repercussions.
Consider, I live in a gated township called Blessington. We have one medical practice with one MD, a pair of NPs, and a handful of nurses. I don't have the luxury of hopping on my bicycle, scooter, a bus, into a car, whatever, and going to find myself another practice elsewhere when I need a second opinion, or think my practice needs more practice before they practice on me.
To 'fire' my practice here means to refuse all medical treatment. No, I'm not on that type of time. I'm here to tell a story behind the concertina wire, do some prison time, hopefully go home early without falling apart. So, at $5 an appointment, I go to see sick calls when they let me, practitioners when sick calls upgrade high enough in the system, and wish for the best.
For those of you outside who have choices, I salute you. Exercise those choices with kindness. If you're planning on firing your doctor or practice for some reason, at least show them some kindness and explain in a reasonable manner why you're considering this.
People may not know they have a blind spot until it's pointed out.
Now, back to contemplating how to build an ox-bike. :)
