Bringing Culture to Plants

I was recently enrolled in our facility's Horticulture program.
I've only had a day and a half of class so far, and I've thrown off several people -- staff and residents alike -- by simply being in there rather than in the tech classroom where I've been a fixture for nearly three years.

People seem to picture me as not an outside person; it's not exactly true. I don't mind being outside, working in a small garden, which is the skill set I hope to gain from this class. I might not be into massive projects like managing a golf course: I don't see it as practical since I can't eat the green there. :)

I'll likely have to now invest in sunscreen since we will be working our own garden plots; though I'm not deficient in melanin, I've had medicines that recommend I avoid a lot of sun. I may not be able to avoid the sun much longer.

I'm having to learn more about planting seasons, but planting down here in the southeast is notably different from the Pacific Northwest. We get to plant a few different things of our choosing for summer, so we should be clearing our garden beds soon in order to do that. If I'm still here for autumn, I figure we'll have an autumn planting, and likewise, a winter run as well. I'm actually kinda excited about this, because I am in a realm of the unknown, with room to learn.

Let's turn some soil, shall we? :)
